Another way to become a fashion designer is to start as an apprentice. By working as an apprentice, you will start at the bottom before working up to designing your own line. There are benefits to working as an apprentice if your ego will allow. You will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of the fashion world from many different angles. This may be a benefit that even going to school cannot offer.
To be a success in a business, especially the fashion business, you must know the industry inside and out and working as an apprentice will give you that. Your knowledge of the business will develop to an expert level and your exposure and interaction with top designers will grow.
